Fireworks …

Such a cool event, Fireworks, I guess everyone did love fireworks, it really amazed for each and every burst that throws out the shower of sparks. This event is held yearly here in Singapore and the ticket price cost 25 dollars per person.

Details can get from
www.fireworks.com.sg. This year I miss the chance to get a ticket as all already sold out. So I can only watch it from marina square but still can see clearly but just cant really listen to the music accompaniment as the fireworks are presented according to the music rhythm; anyway the power of fireworks that can touch you heart and soul are still perfectly reflected. Surely I will get a ticket earlier for the next year event : )

Fireworks are gorgeous, it brings the bright to the darkness sky,
It brings the moment of joy to the lonely soul. Unforgettable night ….

Cost of Living in Singapore - Experience in SG (Part 4)

Cost if Living per month in Singapore

Singapore is a best place to stay ? im curious about that even I already here for 1yr 4 months. Undeniable Singapore has it best transportation network around the island. Everyone that staying here no need to worry for transportation problem. From the most affordable bus, mrt, cab or even higher cost in getting a car also not such a burden ( beside working hours that need to pay for ERP =P ). At least for me Singapore is really a convenient country.

There are few website that are really helpful for those that wanna search for a location :

-
http://www.streetdirectory.com/ – this website should not be strange for most of the people out there as this really a good one for reference getting to a place by bus or mrt.

-
http://www.map.gov.sg/StreetMap/ - this website also good enough to search for a exact location.

After settle down for accomodation and able to get around with those convenient public transportation. The next will be the telecommucation services in singapore, else how to get contact around and buzz your buddy. There are few telco here that offer a competive package. There are 3 main telco here, Singtel, Mobile One (M1) and StarHub.

For those who want to get a cheaper Mobile handset definitely will go for postpaid plan that usually with 2 years contract, this allow the subcriber to pay around 60% for the handset compare to retail price. So this is the best choices for gadgets addict. If wanna go for cheaper voice call and idd, i think it will be advisable go for prepaid card, there are package that for cheaper calling and those with bundle services such as 28dollars top up that allow for 100 dollars usage. So be smart in selecting what ever plan that suite your needs !! beside this, there are broadband services as well and the most convenient is the mobile broadband type, a small devices allow you to browse anywhere and anytime with affordable monthly fees. ( myself using one postpaid line and another for prepaid line, cause im aim for cool gadgets and affordable calling rates ^@^ , and of course i get myself a mobile broadband services as well ) there are few website for those information :

www.singtel.com.sg

www.m1.com.sg
http://www.starhub.com/

After get everything with you in hand, and the next will be how much monthly expenses that cost you here ? there are few main monthly expenses as following : ( all will be estimated in average rate)

Rental – $400-$600
Phone – subcription fees ($25-$90++) + ( $usage)
Broadband – $ 20-100
Transport – 80-130 ( Mrt and Buses)
Daily Food Expenses – $10 ( breakfast, lunch, dinner) base on food court price.

This can be guide line for those that consider work in singapore. =)

MyView : Earn better and definitely SAVE better !

Rental/ Accommodations in Singapore - Experience in SG (Part 3)

Another worries about working in Singapore is accommodation! Especially now the rental are increase crazily compare to previous year. I have been working here since last year April. When I was here last year, the common room rental will just around 300 which the room condition is good and the location is very near to all amenities such as MRT, bus stop, food court, or small shopping complex. BUT today, just another 365 days, the room rental have a high jump to 500 at least for the same quality as I mentioned. Is almost 66% increase in cost!!

There are few accommodation choices for people working here:
HDB Housing and Development Board's (HDB) flat – Undeniable is the best choice for accommodation as it is the cheapest housing and the most affordable for everyone. HDB is government build flat. The pricing that I mention before is actually for this type of accommodation.

Private Condominium - Housing that designed for expats or foreigners, who usually can afford such a place. Most of them have sport facilities such as swimming pool, tennis court, gym. The rental can more then an thousand just for a room.

Service Apartment - Hotel-like accommodation and everything furnished at a very expensive rate, because it also included for kitchen as well as living room.

There are few website that are good for all above information in more details :

For HDB accomodation reference / Private Condominium :
-
http://sg.redad.com/
-
http://www.sgadsonline.com/
-
http://www.sg-house.com

Additional Information about HDB that are cheaper renting compare to market rate:

- Actually the foreigner in Singapore with EP pass or PR status resident are able to rent a cheaper unit from JTC under the Scheme for Housing of Foreign Talent (SHiFT). This is another options that foreigner or PR that work here in singapore. All details are shown in this website -
http://www.jtc.gov.sg/products/readybuilt/housing/apt/eligibility/pages/index.aspx

Service Apartment:
http://www.findouter.com/Asia/Singapore/Travel_and_Tourism/Accommodation/Serviced_Apartments/
Other type accommodation :
-
http://www.suitesmtsophia.com.sg/
-
http://goldhousegroup.com/braddell_regalia.htm

MyView : The cost for accomodation are super high =_= ! is quite a burden for foreigner that work here, especially for those people like me...hard earn money that prefer to save more but end up need to allocate more for rental.

Working legally in Singapore [MOM] - Experience In SG (Part 2)

Working legally in Singapore [MOM] - Experience In SG (Part 2)

According to my previous blog about working in Singapore, the very first step is search a job online, it may be from those famous job website such as jobsdb.com.sg , jobstreet.com.sg, jobscentral.com.sg. All these are famous website that many people will browse around to get a job.

What’s next after throw in all application ? of course waiting for reply whether through call or by email. After the reply will be schedule for an interview to secure for the job. Yes! Get the offer after the interview. What a good news from the application and yet all worries will be following as well. First things that come to your mind will be –what is the proper procedure to work legally here? Is there any tricks in between employer here and urself? Here you go for the proper procedure:

Most company will ask the candidate to fill up bunch of document to apply for Employment Pass, Work Permit, or S Pass. Document that always needed is a full set of education certification and of course passport copy. It always took around 1-2weeks to get approval.

All details regarding that 3 passes can get from
www.mom.gov.sg

Or more specifically for that 3 passes is as following:

http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en/communities/work_pass/employment_pass.html ( Employment Pass )

http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en/communities/work_pass/work_permit.html ( Work Permit )

http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en/communities/work_pass/s_pass.html ( S Pass )

Your company will submit all necessary documents to the MOM, and usually it will take 1-2 weeks time to get approval. after the approval, your company will inform you and with the approval letter you need to do a medical checkup at the appointed medical centre here.

After getting the medical report, you will need to go to the MOM office personally and collect for your Work pass, and of course there is charges for the passes upon collection, the fees charges depends to the duration apply by your company. The fees always can reimburse later from your employer.

My.View : For me, when I were here for my first job is with EP pass, mostly degree holder will get EP pass. But I do have friend that get S Pass which all these are depends to the preference of the company application. This is due to each company will have different quota for all employees passes. So, please do clarify with the company when get job offer.

MOM office location : 18 Havelock Road, Singapore 059764
Website address :
http://www.mom.gov.sg/publish/momportal/en/header/contact_us.html

( The nearest MRT is at Chinatown, can alight at Chinatown MRT station and the walking distance is about 5-10min to reach the office.

* Happy working in Singapore to everyone looking forward to come here. Hows my social life experience here ? will be continue for the next blog... =)
